Concord, meaning "harmony" is located in Cabarrus county, and has a population of approximately 62,000. This growing area has a historic district with Victorian Homes and is also home to two of Metropolitan Charlotte's major attractions: Concord Mills and Lowe's Motor Speedway. Harrisburg is a small town of about 5,000 people in a popular suburb of Cabarrus County. It borders Mecklenburg County's University City with its residential, retail and employment growth. Harrisburg is also home to a State Bureau of Investigation office that serves the nine county area surrounding Charlotte. With its steady business and industrial growth, this town continues to grow while still maintaining its rural heritage.
Kannapolis is located in the I-85 corridor north of Charlotte, on the western side of Cabarrus County. Once known for its textile manufacturing, the closing of Pillowtex in 2003 changed the business dynamic of Kannapolis dramatically. The North Carolina Research Campus, a new joint venture between Dole Foods, Duke University and the University of North Carolina is building on the same site and is primed to shape the city in years to come.
